Humanist Officiant - Public Speaker - Award Winning Author
Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here!
"The strongest thing we can lean on is each other."I’m Steve Ghikadis. I believe that a life guided by reason is anything but cold—it’s a life defined by warmth, curiosity, and a deep commitment to human connection.Raised as a freethinker, I’ve spent my life exploring a vast array of differing beliefs and perspectives. Through that journey, I’ve learned one simple truth: Meaning isn’t something we find in a book; it’s something we build together.I’m not interested in winning arguments; I’m interested in building bridges. I believe we can follow the truth wherever it leads while still maintaining a radical empathy for one another. There is always room for a new perspective at this table.Make Yourself at Home!I invite you to look around, explore my story, and see the work I’m doing. Whether you’re here because you heard me in conversation on a podcast, or you're looking for someone to help celebrate a major milestone in your life, I’m glad you found your way here.

My Book Shelf
"The right words can be the first brick in a new foundation."Reading has always been a way for me to explore the "vast array of beliefs" I mentioned earlier. These are the books that shaped my perspective and the ones I wrote or contributed to, that can help others find their own way.My Work:Humanism from the Heart: Building Bridges Beyond Belief
In this book, I share my personal journey of navigating life as a freethinker in a world of faith. It’s a guide for anyone looking to reclaim the language of connection, empathy, and meaning without needing to rely on the supernatural. It’s my invitation to you to see how warm a rational life can truly be.Humanism: Canadian Perspectives
I am proud to be a contributor to this landmark collection—the first of its kind in Canada. This book brings together a diverse array of voices from across the country to explore what it means to live a rational, ethical life in a specifically Canadian context. It is a reflection of my belief that while we each have our own story, we are part of a much larger, shared conversation. Published as a dual-language edition in both English and French, this book serves as a bridge between cultures, ensuring that the dialogue on reason and compassion reaches every corner of our country.Others coming soon…

Humanist Canada:
My National Community
"Living a life of purpose, grounded in our shared humanity."I’ve always believed that being a Humanist is about more than just what we don't believe; it’s about the values we actively champion. As an Ambassador for Humanist Canada, I am proud to be part of a national voice that promotes reason, compassion, and a commitment to building a more ethical and sustainable world. For me, this organization is a vital part of the "bridge" I talk about. It’s where we turn philosophy into action—advocating for secular rights, supporting science-based education, and providing a sense of belonging for those who find their wonder in the natural world. Why I Support Humanist Canada:• Meaning Without Superstition: We provide the resources to navigate life's big questions through a rational lens.• Secular Ceremonies: As an Officiant, I work alongside Humanist Canada to ensure every Canadian has access to meaningful milestones that reflect their true values.• National Impact: From human rights to climate action, we are building a foundation for a better future, together.
Street Epistemology International
"Changing the way we talk about the things that matter most."Have you ever wondered how to have a productive conversation with someone who holds a completely different worldview? Street Epistemology (SE) is a conversational toolset designed to help people reflect on the reliability of the methods they use to arrive at their conclusions.Instead of debating "what" people believe, SE focuses on "how" they believe it. It is a practice rooted in deep listening, intellectual humility, and genuine curiosity—turning a potential argument into a shared exploration of truth. Why I Recommend This Resource:• A Bridge, Not a Battle: SE provides a way to engage with others without the friction of traditional debate.• Anthony Magnabosco: As a founder and leading practitioner, Anthony’s work has pioneered a world where we can disagree with dignity and stay focused on the evidence.• Navigating Beliefs: Street Epistemology International (SEI) provides the training and resources to help anyone become a more effective, empathetic communicator."The goal isn't to win an argument; it’s to help someone (and yourself) find a better path to the truth."

My Story
I was raised as a freethinker, which gave me the incredible gift of a blank canvas. Growing up, I wasn't told what to think, but I was taught how to think—with curiosity, integrity, and an open mind. This upbringing instilled in me a lifelong fascination with how humans find meaning and how we choose to treat one another when the traditional scripts are set aside.Over the years, my curiosity led me to explore a vast array of perspectives, including a meaningful period spent in church with my Christian spouse and her family. These experiences didn't pull me away from my rational roots; instead, they deepened my understanding of the human need for community and connection. I realized that while our beliefs about the unknown may differ, our need for a "solid foundation" of empathy and support is universal.Today, my work is a reflection of that journey. Whether I am speaking about Humanism from the Heart, officiating a wedding, or serving as an Ambassador for organizations like Humanist Canada and Recovering from Religion, my goal is the same: to show that a life of reason is a life of profound warmth.I’m proud to have been recognized with the King Charles III Coronation Medal for this service, but my greatest reward is simply helping people build their own bridges to a more connected, compassionate life.

I’m proud to serve this community and to help my neighbours navigate life's most important chapters."We’re in this together. Let’s create something beautiful."

You found it. You’re a seeker, and I’ve always believed that the world is built by people who aren't afraid to look a little deeper. In a world that often feels like it's pulling apart, it takes a special kind of courage to be the one who listens. My hope for this space—and for my work—is that it serves as a reminder: we don't have to agree on everything to treat each other with dignity. The strongest foundations aren't built on being right; they are built on being real.Do me a small favour today? Take five minutes to truly listen to someone you usually disagree with. Don’t listen to respond, and don’t listen to win. Just listen to understand the human being on the other side. That simple, quiet act is how the first stone of a bridge is laid.I’m so glad you’re here on this journey with me. Keep seeking, keep questioning, and above all, keep your heart open.— Steve
The Bridge-Builder’s Creed
In a world of increasing noise and division, I choose a different path. This creed guides my writing, my speaking, and my daily interactions:• I speak to the human, not the system. My goal is to reach the person across from me, knowing that kindness is the only key that fits the lock of a closed mind.• I am a safe harbour. I choose to be the calm, rational, and warm voice that people remember when they finally decide to look for a way out of conflict.• I measure success by integrity, not volume. A single meaningful connection is worth more than a thousand empty claps. If I stay true to the value of cordiality, I have already succeeded.• I plant seeds for a harvest I may never see. I trust that the bridges I build today, even the ones built in the face of misunderstanding, will be walked upon by others tomorrow.
